Exploring Sustainable Energy and Resource Efficiency in the Cement Industry

Colombia is gradually shifting towards #sustainable and #renewable energy, with a growing adoption of hybrid and electric vehicles. Around 70% of the country's electricity is generated through #hydropower, but efforts are underway to increase the use of wind and solar power and improve the efficiency of thermal power plants. Argos Cement Company in Colombia is researching ways to recover lost energy in the cement manufacturing process. Dr. César Nieto-Londoño, a mechanical engineer at the University of Bolivariana in Colombia, discusses the advancement of sustainable energy and emphasizes the collaborative efforts between academia, industry, and the EU-funded iWAYS project. This collaboration allows for the exploration of technologies such as #heatpipes to recover #wasteheat and enhance resource efficiency in the cement manufacturing process.
