Making Music - how to make a Flute

Matthias Ziegler is playing he contrabass flute in G or contralto ... a flute designed by Eva Kingma of the Netherlands. The bass flute is being used more and more by flautists and orchestras. For the flautist it is like a journey to an uninhabited island where everything you meet is unfamiliar. Practice, study and experiment, that's what the contraltos have to do. But then you do have something special and if you have the gift to perform in concert then you fast forget about the sweaty hours of practice. Eva Kingma continuously tries to improve the Bassflute. She is convinced that this instrument deserves more respect. The main challenge is to give it an egal and good response over all registers. Eva has the world patent on the flutes Kingma system. Every flute player has their own specific preferences. Not all fingers are just as long or wide and every high C has to be a high C. Short and good: Eva makes flutes that have extra musical capabilities and each flute fits its owners fingers like a glove. Making Music is a series of 7 documentaries which take a closer look at the skills and crafts of makers and restorers of musical instruments. Duration 7 x 10 minutes.
