IIIF Fall Working Meeting: IIIF 3D boundaries

Updates and developments of the IIIF 3D Community are shared by the three Co-Chairs Ed Silverton (Mnemoscene, Universal Viewer), Tom Flynn (Sketchfab), Ronald Haynes (Cambridge University) and others in the community. Related projects, experiments, and discussions that are helping to evolve possibilities for 3D interoperability and sustainability are highlighted, as well as an initial 3D rendering recipe example, collected user stories, and samplings of 3D Workflows for Cultural Heritage, and an introduction to a 3D viewer comparison project - looking at animation, transparency, rendering, view sharing, annotations. In addition, work concerning related model variations, metadata, and persistent identifiers for objects is covered. The session also served to provide further exploration and discussion of user needs and stories, expand the existing understanding of the wider community’s requirements to consider while developing 3D to better fit within existing IIIF standards for 2D, AV, etc.
