2006 Mercedes E350 PremAir or Ozone Sensor Check Engine Code P2053 or P2571

2006 Mercedes E350 was brought in for Check Engine Light. The ME 9.7 code was P02053. The original plastic Beru made PremAir sensor (aka ozone sensor) on the customers car had fallen and broken apart. We didnt need to remove the radiator to replace the PremAir Sensor, but we did need to remove and install the electric engine fan assembly. Mercedes recommends gluing the new PremAir Sensor back on to the radiator with the special $41 glue mentioned in this video if you are replacing the original one, otherwise it can fall off from road vibrations, or potholes. The Mercedes PremAir/Ozone sensor only has two functions. One function is to detect heat off of the radiator catalyst surface and report it to the ME and the other function is let ME (Motor Electronics) Computer know that it is there/exists and is working properly. If your car has a PremAir Sensor, you cannot bypass it, it must be replaced inorder to turn off the check engine light. Also if you are replacing the radiator already equiped with PremAir sensor it must be replaced with the exact same style radiator to fit the PremAir Sensor, otherwise the check engine light will stay on. All E Class Mercedes after model year 2006 have PremAir or Ozone Sensors located on the radiator. If you're reading this, you probably didnt know your 2006 and newer E Class Mercedes was engineered to burn off the NOX from other cars that causes smog and be a green friendly car. The primary function of PremAir Sensor equipped Catalyst coated Radiators is turn burn passing NOX into oxygen when the car is sitting in traffic or while it is moving. The radiator has a special catalyst film on it that helps this process happen. Mercedes is currently the only passenger car manufacturer to have this Premair system on their cars. In the future CARB (California Air Resources Board) will require all car manufacturers to have similiar style PremAir sensors on all their new cars and trucks.
