Brass

Brasses are a copper-zinc alloys widely used in various industries due to its unique properties. Brasses are marked with the capital letter “L”, followed in the case of wrought alloys by letters denoting specially introduced elements and numbers characterizing the copper content and alloying elements other than zinc. For cast brasses, the copper content is not indicated, and the component content is listed immediately after the letters. A distinction is made between single-phase alpha brasses, which contain up to 35% zinc, and two-phase alpha + beta brasses, which contain up to 47-50% zinc. Single-phase brasses are characterized by good ductility and high corrosion resistance. They are ideal for the manufacture of plumbing fixtures, pipelines, and various fittings. Two-phase brasses can be further alloyed with lead, aluminum, manganese, iron, and other elements, which improves their mechanical and technological properties. These alloys are in demand in the production of machine parts, shafts, gears, and tools. Brass is also used in electronics, where it is used to make connectors and contact assemblies due to its good electrical conductivity and corrosion resistance. Furthermore, brass can be found in decorative elements and jewelry due to its attractive appearance and ease of machining. These alloys are also used in the production of coins, badges, and medals.
