With Ragebound out tomorrow, I thought it would be a good time to go back and play the NES games. Originally, I wanted to upload no death clears of Ninja Gaiden 1, 2, and 3 day after day, but I've been too busy with other things to play the games enough. I've learned NG2, but it's probably going to have to wait until after I'm done with Ragebound and Earthion. Sad!

I'm sure most of the people that are going to see this video already know this game, so I'm not going to go into a bunch of redundant detail. Ninja Gaiden is an NES classic, and going back to it today, it still holds up wonderfully. There's no doubt that this is one of the best games on the system. Right now, it might even be my favorite, but that could change as I go back through more of the classics.

Ninja Gaiden is known for its difficulty, and it's challenging to reach the point where you can clear it without dying, but it's also one of those games where most of the difficulty comes from memorizing the enemy placement and the instant death traps. Once you have that muscle memory, none of the execution is that difficult. I'm not saying that as a good or bad thing, it just is what it is. For me, it doesn't make the game any less fun, and it's satisfying to keep playing and seeing your progress as your memory gets sharper. It definitely keeps you on your toes.

It's worth mention that there's a glitch technique you can use to quickly damage enemies. When you use a jump attack, you can cancel the recovery by pressing down and attack rapidly. There's a certain timing and rhythm to it in order to do the cancels fast and consistently, but it's hard to put into words (especially since I'm uploading this about a week after I last played it, so my memory is already fading lol). You can't really just mash down + B mindlessly, it takes a bit of practice to get a feel for it.

So yeah, this game is a timeless classic. Be sure to really play it one day, whether it's today or in 2045, because I'm sure it'll still be just as fun then as it is now. For now, I'll look forward to Ragebound.
