Propeller Powered 1932 Helicron | 1928 Martin Aerodynamic | Oddball Classic Cars | Lane Motor Museum
My Classic Car is in Nashville, Tennessee to tour a fun and unique collection of cars. The Lane Motor Museum is home to some of the weirdest automobiles ever made – and there are hundreds of them here! With so many unique and interesting vehicles to pick from it was hard to narrow it down to a few to feature in this episode, but the 1932 Helicron was a must! This cutting edge automobile was designed in France and thought to be the future of transportation. Powered by a wooden propeller, the Helicron steers from the rear and takes a while to get up to speed, but Dennis had to take this prop car out for a spin!
First up, though, is an innovative Czechoslovakian car that turned Jay Leno onto the marque. This air-cooled rear-engine 1947 Tatra has several unique features and was really ahead of its time for being able to hit 100mph in the early 1930s. With its triple headlight setup and dorsal fin in the rear, it was hard to miss one of these high-end luxury speed machines.
Next, we slide over to a one-of-a-kind stainless steel roadster crafted after WWII. The 1946 Hewson Rocket is a prototype intended to be produced by airplane manufacturers post war. With its aerodynamic design and hot rodded V8 power plant, it seems like it shouldn’t have had a problem getting off the ground. Even though the concept never took off, you can still see this one flying around the lot at the Lane Motor Museum!
Another early attempt at efficient wind resistance was the Martin Aerodynamic. Built in 1928, this interesting automobile packs a whopping 4-cylinder Flathead engine, brakes only on the rear wheels, and just one door which is located in the back. To say it offered a unique driving experience is certainly an understatement, but it sure looks cool. Just wait until you see this baby!
The Lane Motor Museum is a classic car collection like you wouldn’t believe, and we’re so glad we got to check it out. With hundreds of vehicles on display and in running condition, you need to check this one out!
