TODAY WENDY HOLCOMBE has accomplished what other hungry pickers have dreamed about for years. She has played the Grand Ole Opry, the Strip in Las Vegas, "The Porter Wagoner Show," "Pop! Goes The Country," a private party in a swank New York mansion, in a Walt Disney production, "Big Blue Marble" and at the Music City News Cover Awards Shows. This year she was a contender for the Music City News Awards Most Promising Female Artist of the Year. Not bad for an eleventh grader who is just learning to read music.

THE STORY of Wendy's fast-rising career belongs in the pages of Ripley's Believe It Or Not. One day her Dad came home with a second-hand banjo, complete with records and instruction booklet. After two months of hard practice, he was ready to give up, because he hadn't learned one tune. Wendy begged for the chance to pick those five strings, but her father refused her.
