Lee Tracey
(Aka. Richard Lee)
Queen of Adult Comedy
Lee began his career in the Show Biz world singing with local Traditional Jazz Bands to overcome his school boy stammer. Later he performed as a stand-up comedian thanks to his, then agent, the late Wally Dent.
He worked for many years in stand-up earning a reputation as one of the quickest ad-libbers on the Southern Club Circuit. His reputation continued to grow when he added female impersonation to his repertoire. In 1970, Lee along with three close friends; Chubby Oates, Tommy Osborne and Mrs Shufflewick (aka. Rex Jameson) formed “The Pure Corn Company”. They wrote, directed and performed in various theatres in the Home Counties such as The Theatre Royal Stratford East (12 yrs), The Golden Lane Theatre (London), The Arts Theatre (London), The Granville Theatre (Ramsgate), The Theatre Royal (Margate), The Wimbledon Theatre (5 years) and many more. Others who guested on these shows were Bobby Davro, Hilda Baker, Nick Berry, Joan Turner and Cardew Robinson.
In 1980 Lee joined with Michael Barrymore at Thames television to write Michael´s dialogue for the hit show “Strike It Lucky” and went on to write dialogue for “The TV Times Awards”, “Jim´ll Fix it”, “Saturday Night Live”, and “Sebastian The Incredible Drawing Dog”. During this same period he also appeared in “Moon and Son”, “Just Good friends” and a host of TV commercials.
Lee´s act has taken him overseas performing in Malta, Spain, Northern Ireland and Miami, Florida USA. His greatest love remains pantomime and he has clocked up over 30 performances playing Dame (his favourite role), The Emperor of China and The Wicked Witch.
Lee wrote, directed and appeared in the 1st adult pantomime on video; “Mother Goosed” at the Wimbledon Theatre. In the last 16 years he has written, directed and starred in the annual adult pantos at The Pavilion Theatre, Brighton; they have received much critical acclaim year on year.
