"DIVE FOOTAGE STARTING AT THE B-DECK PROMENADE AND FOCUSING ON B- AND D-DECK STATEROOMS".

Description:
This video tour of the wreckage of Titanic was shot by the submersible Jake, with the Mir 1 submersible's lights also in view through much of its duration. It begins on the forward port side of the B-Deck Promenade, showing the Utley's vertical sliding stateroom windows and other flourishes surrounding it. The closed Port side gate for the stairs leading up from the forward well deck can be seen. This gate was given much attention during the hearings into the sinking of Titanic in 1912, as at least one 3rd class passenger stated he could not get through it to escape. Of-course it was not locked, and being only some 3 feet tall, it could be easily straddled by anyone not wearing a dress.

The camera passes under the fallen mast to the Starboard side where the "Mystery Box" is seen attached to the forward bulwark. Researchers have still not identified what the shrouded box was used for. The round deadlight seen as the camera swipes past the forward bulkhead is from the starboard side entrance door into the deckhouse.

Located on the forward side of the B Deckhouse (where the windows are seen here), was a brass Harland & Wolff builder's plaque mounted high on the bulkhead. This plaque has disappeared, perhaps fallen into the sediment below.

A closer look at the back side of the B Deck bulwark reveals metal storm shutters for the windows seen in this footage. The shutters are secured to mounts between the stanchions.

Jake then descends to the windows in the forward end of B-Deck, and proceeds past a large number of rusticles and a few deep sea creatures (Galathea Crab, Anenome, Rattail Fish) into B-Deck staterooms B-3, 7, 1, 2, 8, 5 and 9 with still-intact wooden beds and window hardware.

The scene changes to the enclosed A-Deck promenade on the Starboard side. Seen are open Brass Utley's windows from the staterooms.

We next move to Port side of B Deck and the enclosed private promenade of staterooms B52, 54, 56. This suite of rooms is where Joseph Bruce Ismay, the managing Director of the White Star Line and President of the International Mercantile Marine Company, (the owners of Titanic) stayed.

Ismay managed to survive the sinking, but his valet Richard Fry and his secretary William Henry Harrison (who also stayed in these rooms) both perished. In view in this suite, as well as B-56, are a fireplace, a box of some sort in the wardrobe room, a double bed in B-54 (Ismay's room) and the private promenade that had fitted with settees, chairs and tables.

The tour ends with a return to the A Deck enclosed promenade, where the camera proceeds from forward to aft. Commencing through the doorway (with rectangular window to left) of the bulkhead to the starboard side promenade, the deckhead (deck above) can be seen ahead as it has collapsed. The camera makes a turn to port where the crewman's door comes into view. This stairwell trunk afforded access up to the Boat deck, and down to B deck. Leading directly to the Bridge it was for "Use of Crew Only". A brass plaque marked the warning to passengers. A absent sliding door secured the opening to the stairs.

B-Deck Information

The Bridge, or B Deck, was as opulent as the A Deck. It was home to the highest concentration of First-Class cabins and suites aboard the ship. Also located on the B Deck were the exclusive A La Carte Restaurant and Cafe Parisien, the Second-Class Smoking area, and extensive First- and Second-Class Promenades. Far aft on the stern end of the ship was the Third-Class Poop Deck, affording these passengers some outside deck space.
