African Mining spoke to operations director of the travelling exhibitions company, Mining and Technical Exhibitions (MTE), Andrew Macnamara upon his return from the combo expo tour in Botswana. “The ‘can do’ attitude in Botswana and the openness to innovation is exactly why we host expos in the country annually – to bring our valued suppliers and their technical expertise to decision-makers seeking innovation, and those who offer a stable environment to do business in,” says Macnamara.

The three back to back MTE expos, each a day apart, proved to be an operational feat to be reckoned with: Letlhakane on 6 March (customised for the diamond operations, which include the Orapa, Letlhakane and Karowe mines); Palapye on 8 March (tailored for coal operations and power stations like Morupule Coal Mine, MCM, and the Moru¬pule A and Moru¬pule B power stations, respectively) ending in Jwaneng on 10 March (again, focused on the booming diamond industry). These expos saw high levels of attendance from 260-300+ visitors per expo catered to by 53 exhibitors selected for the needs of each area.
