Edgell Bridge, Lyme, New Hampshire

State of New Hampshire Covered Bridge Number 25.
The Edgell Bridge in Lyme reopened in April 2025 after a $690,000 restoration project. Built in 1885 by John Clark Piper and his son, Walter Granger Piper, the Edgell Bridge in Lyme is an early example of prefab construction. The Pipers owned J.C. and W.G. Piper Mill, located in the village center, where they pre-cut the bridge timbers. The pieces were assembled on the common and then pulled to Clay Brook with a team of oxen. It is often reported that Piper was just eighteen years old when he built the Edgell Bridge, but he was twenty-four.
