As global tensions over trade wars, tariffs, Taiwan and the Iran conflict intensify, US President Donald Trump struck a surprisingly warm tone during his crucial meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing. Calling Xi a “friend,” Trump claimed US-China relations could become “better than ever before” despite deep divisions over Taiwan, AI, technology, military influence and economic dominance.

Xi Jinping, however, issued a strong warning that mishandling the Taiwan issue could push the two superpowers toward “conflict.” The high-stakes US-China summit comes at a time when the global economy faces uncertainty from rising tariffs, slowing trade and the geopolitical impact of the Iran war.

Trump reportedly arrived in Beijing alongside top American CEOs from major tech and business giants, highlighting how trade deals, investments and market access remain central to Washington’s China strategy. While the diplomatic optics suggested cooperation, the larger battle between the US and China over trade, artificial intelligence, military power and global influence is far from over.
