What Happened To Mars?

Mars was formed ~4.5 billion years ago. It's located on the outer edge of the Habitable Zone. Which means it's slightly too far from the Sun and receives a little less amount of sunlight.

About a billion years after its formation, Mars used to have a very thick atmosphere. Which used to trap the heat coming from Sun and warm up its surface, just like Earth. Mars had an Earth-like warmer climate and water used to flow all over its surface.
