X ray Diffraction

X-ray diffraction (XRD) is a scientific technique used to study the atomic structure of crystalline materials. It works by directing X-rays onto a crystal and observing how the rays scatter (diffract) when they interact with the regularly arranged atoms in the crystal.

Basic Principle

When X-rays strike a crystal, the atoms in the crystal act like tiny scattering centers. Because atoms in crystals are arranged in regular repeating planes, the scattered X-rays can interfere with each other.
