‘Not lost on me’: Jacinta Allan appreciates the history of becoming Vic Premier

Victoria has named its second female premier in the state’s history, 49th Premier Jacinta Allan.

The Bendigo MP and mother of two was successful in warding off a challenge from factional rival Ben Carroll.

Mr Carroll later pledged allegiance to the Allan government as the state’s Deputy Premier.

Ms Allan met with Victorian Governor Margaret Gardner as she took the premier’s pledge.

The meeting marked the first time ever a female Victorian governor met with a female Victorian premier and the moment is not lost on Ms Allan.

“It’s not lost on me that I am only the second woman to lead this state,” she said.

“That also comes with some emotion.”
