Amarkantak is a hill station and Holy Place as 4 Rivers originates from here , Narmada, Son , Bhadra & Johila ,Amarkantak is located at Maikal Hills which is meeting point of Vindhya & Satpura Ranges , Kabir Das ji also visited & meditated here in 15th Centuary at Kabir Chabutra. Amar Kantak is Sanskrit word Meaning Amarita & Kantaka ( Kaanta ), Amarkantak is located in Anuppur District of Madhya Pradesh , Nearest Airport is Jabalpur which is 200 Kms / 4 hours drive , Nearest railway station is Bhawar Tonk 39 Kms , & Pendra Road 43 Kms. Amarkantak average altitude is Approx 3500 Feet ASL, which is almost smilar to PAchmarhi . So Amarkantak is a hill station Holy Station & Wildlife Place as Achanak Mar Tiger Reserve is just 40 Kms.
Sight Seeing Places At Amarkantak :
1 Narmada Kund : This is a temple complex with Origine Point of Holy River Narmada , with a Water Pond , Bathing is not allowed here , Another Pond is there where you can bath , One Small Stone Elephant is there and people cross below elephant to fulfill whishes.
2: Kalchuri Temple Complex: Placed south of Narmada kund this ancient group of temples is an archeological preservation site. Well maintained by ASI. Made by Kalichuri king,Karna Dev between 1042-1072 AD . Legend says Adi Sankaracharya established Siva ling here still found in pataleshwar temple. A must visit for history enthusiastic persons
3: Sonmuda : Its origin point of Two rivers Son & Bhadra and a view Point , if you reach Early morning sunrise view is very beautiful, Son & Bhadra are two rivers Bhadra river meets Son river and they continue as Son Bhadra River , There is a district in UP on name Son Bhadra., So many Monekys are here so be careful
4: Shri Yantra Mandir : It is a Temple Complex , Under Construction , you can click pictures from out side.
5: Mai Ki Bagiya : It is said Mata Narmada was coming to pluck flowers & fruits here , Her childhood statue is placed here , Mai ki Bagiya where another source of River Narmada emerging from Kund. Auspicious and Spiritual place at Amarkantak near to Narmada temple. Covered with greenery and tall and dance mango trees. Narmada Mata temple there with Lord Hanuman Temple. Quite peaceful and decent place to visit. Recommended to everyone.
6: Kapil Dhara Water Fall : Beautiful waterfall.
* Best season for visiting is end of rainy season and winter.
* Weather is cool and very cold their in winter.
* Best thing of this waterfall is that you can * watch waterfall from both top and bottom.* Nice Greenery atmosphere with lots of temples.
* Be aware of monkeys,
* Natural place full of tourist.
7 Jwaleshwar : Udagma Stahla of Johila River & Shiva Temple.
7 Dhoodh Dhara : Dudh Dhara water falls, Amarkantak, Madhya Pradesh, India is located at a distance of about 1.5 km from Kapil Dhara water falls. It is another water falls of the river Narmada at the down stream of Kapil Dhara. When the water falls from a height it creats milky appearence and looks like milk falling from a height. The surrounding arrea is reach in
natural beauty of forest with medicinal plants and hills. The path leads from Kapil Dhara through forest to the falls. One should be physically fit to treak to reach to the base of the falls to get a clear view and to take photograph. It is said that the great saint Durbasa ( muni) perfopermed his meditation in a cave at this place for salvation. There is a flat surface near the cave on the side of the fall where one can sit and relex for sometimes after treaking. One can enjoy the beauty of the nature at this place surrounded by forest and hills.
8: Kabir Chabutara; A beautiful place nestled within the Achanakmar Wildlife Sanctuary in Chattisgarh. It is located within a valley, a short drive from Amarkantak. It associated with Sant Kabir and a few of his belongings are preserved within a small mud hut called the Kabir Kuti.
