Girlhood Disrupted: The Pseudo-Maturity of Traumatized Girls in Film | Cheyenne Lin

The trope Girlhood Disrupted refers to a girl who, because of her trauma, is written as "wise beyond her years" and thus, is made to relate more to adults than kids her own age. This trope is harmful to different types of girls for different reasons. In the case of white girls, this trope fulfills a dangerous straight male fantasy, whereas for black girls, this trope adds to the false stereotype that black girls are "more adult" and therefore, don't deserve a childhood.
