Operation Saratoga (1965)

Mediterranean Sea.
Jet planes fly past overhead. 80,000 ton American aircraft carrier "Saratoga" is seen from the air. Planes take off. Men are seen at work on board. Model aircraft are moved around a lay out of the flight deck. C/U of cartoon figures painted on side of aircraft - Felix the cat, an owl and a black panther. Various shots of American Air Force pilots being briefed in the squadron room. They get their kit on - including gun holsters. Escalator to the flight deck. Aircraft are moved into place on platforms. Pilots put on their helmets and prepare for flight. Rescue helicopter takes off, then a radar aircraft which is known affectionately as "Willy Fudd".
Narrator tells us that the Pathe cameraman Martin Rolfe: "scrambled close to these monster jets to snatch these dramatic shots of catapult launchings." Various aircraft are seen taking off. Captain's view from the bridge. Television screen shows details of the aircraft take offs. Flight paths are plotted. Wheel which is used to steer the fortress is seen. Various shots of different parts of the ship. Control deck, ship's laundry, bakery, canteen, barbers shop, dentist, etc.
Hanger where aircraft are checked and repaired. On board chapel. Air Force personnel take communion. Patrolling destroyer approaches Saratoga to deliver a man who needs treatment at the on board hotel. A brass band plays him aboard. The man comes aboard via a flying fox - looks scary. Little jazz band play for the on board television channel. There are film shows on board ship also. Television is used to record the landing of planes. One misses the "arrester wires" and has to try again. Control room - men track movements of the aircraft on charts. Radar tracking equipment shown.
