The Story: Beginning of Joyland, there is a man under a blanket playing hide and seek with little girls. The man is revealed to be Hater who is the uncle of the girls. Then Hater's sister-in-law goes into labor and Hater takes her to the hospital. At the hospital, Hater witnesses a traumatized trans woman with blood all over her clothes but he is interrupted by his brother. Hater is then seen struggling to catch a black baby goat and his father tries to contact the butcher but the butcher is not available. Hater is asked to slap the goat but he hesitates and his wife Mumptas eventually slaughters the goat instead. Hater's sister-in-law gives birth to a baby girl which disappoints her as she wanted a baby boy. Hater is jobless while his wife Mumptas works at a parlor. Hater goes to a theater where he shows his dance moves but he is laughed at and leaves angrily. He later accepts a job as a background dancer for a trans woman he saw at the hospital who is performing at the theater. Hater performs again and is selected for the job. At a theater performance, Hater sees the same trans woman he met and is impressed by her performance but she is upset. Hater tells Montes about his theater job but lies to his father about being a theater manager instead of a background dancer. His father agrees. Hater's brother suggests that Mumtes should help Hater's sister-in-law at home. But a table fight breaks out and Montes is told to stay at home making her sad as she wanted to go to work. A woman in the subway tells Biva to sit somewhere else as she was a but she refused to listen. Hater seeing this sits in between them which shuts the women up. While they both laugh at the moment, Biba takes Hater to her house. Hater and Biba in a room talk while Biba gets close to Hater after which Hater becomes nervous and leaves. Hater at night sees Biba standing at the end of the street and follows. Then they share a kiss. And Montes were enjoying at a carnival. The old man was left with her neighbor and had to go to the washroom but was embarrassed after he wet himself in front of his neighbor. However, Neeber comforted him. As noone was home, she had to stay the night with the old man. At night, Montes looks out of her window and see a guy who was beating his meat and somehow Mumptas seemed to like it and was moving in a sexual way and was caught red handed by Hater's brother. On the next day, Mumptas got her checkup done at the hospital and was confirmed with four months of pregnancy. At the makeup room, Hater was teased by his fellow dancer for being too close to a trans woman. A drunk guy then slapped Hater upon which Biba in and threatened the drunk guy. Biba and Hater tried to have a good time together but Hater turned out to be gay which made Biba very angry with hater. Mumtaz then told Hater that she was pregnant with a baby boy and Hater cried like a baby. On the old man's birthday, Mumtaz who was pregnant played with the little girls carelessly. However, due to trauma and being unsatisfied with her life as Hater cheated on her with the trans women and did not manage to satisfy her so Mumtaz became upset and drank poison in the toilet. Came to Hater's house for Mamtes's funeral. After which Mamtez's body was washed up and taken to a graveyard ready to be buried. Salim seemed frustrated by Mumtes' suicide and taunted her about ending the life of the child. Hater threw spoons at Salim while shut Salim up and blamed everyone including herself for the murder of Mamtes. Finally Hater left for Karachi and was seen in the end going into the ocean.
