RIBA + VitrA Talk with Snøhetta
Architectural practice Snøhetta began as a collaborative architectural and landscape workshop, blending surroundings and identity to create a trans-disciplinary approach to their work.
After winning an international design competition in 1989, founding partners Craig Dykers and Kjetil Trædal Thorsen received their first commission to recreate the great Alexandria Library in Egypt, and have since continued designing outstanding buildings internationally.
Some of Snøhetta’s most notable architectural projects include:
• their competition-winning proposal for the Norwegian National Opera and Ballet
• ‘Under’ - Europe’s first underwater restaurant in Norway
• the only cultural building commissioned on the World Trade Centre Memorial site
• the design of the new San Francisco Museum of Modern Art (SFMOMA) Expansion
Today, Snøhetta continues to expand into an internationally renowned practice of architecture, landscape architecture, interior architecture, product and graphic design, with offices around the world in Innsbruck, Paris, Hong Kong and Adelaide.
In this lecture, founding partners Craig and Kjetil discuss many of Snøhetta's projects, and talk us through their trans-disciplinary approach to architecture and landscape.
