‘Iran is testing us’ U.S. military with attacks, ‘our deterrence is based on our ability to respond’

Israel trades fire with Iran-backed Hezbollah in the North, raising the question of whether a regional war is imminent. Marc Polymeropolous joins Andrea Mitchell to discuss the U.S. military’s repositioning across the Middle East to deter Iran and to respond to any potential threats to U.S. troops and assets. “One of the things that I've been curious about is that the U.S. military has not responded. I think that, you know, Iran is certainly testing us. But our deterrence is based on our ability to respond and and so far, we have not done so,” Polymeropolous says. “The CENTCOM commander several weeks ago said there had been actually 80 attacks over a period of time with only four times where the U.S. responded. So I do wonder about that situation. It is certainly more dangerous for US forces deployed in the Middle East.”
