Silver Lake’s Hidden Stairs | Math Walks | PBS SoCal

Count stairs and discover patterns as you tour the colorful Silver Lake staircases with your kids. For a loop that spans about 2 miles, start on Sunset Boulevard and count your way to the top of the iconic Micheltorena Heart Stairs (209 stairs to be exact). Then, take the Descanso Stairs to the top of the “Music Box” Steps, to visit the 1932 movie scene where the two deliverymen struggled pushing a piano uphill. Take Silver Lake Boulevard up to the Swan Stairs, where you’ll encounter 3 colorful landings of patterns and love notes to Los Angeles. On the way back down the hill, you’ll find a shortcut to Sunset Boulevard down the keys of the Piano Stairs. Don’t be afraid to take detours — all stairs lead to new math adventures.
