Singlehanded TransPac SHTP 2021 - Solo Sailing Race Across Pacific Ocean from San Francisco to Kauai

Singlehanded TransPacific Yacht Race (aka Singlehanded TransPac, SHTP) 2021 with 11 solo sailors racing across 2200nm of the Northern Pacific Ocean from San Francisco, California to Hanalei Bay, Kauai, Hawaii. This is a short video diary of S/V Sea Wisdom (1987 Hinckley Sou'wester 42 Competition Slop) on her 18-day solo passage across the ocean in solitude. Footages include aerial drone and underwater shots in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. My passage was plagued with early and mid-passage light wind conditions, equipment failures such as compromised main rudder, missing bolts for backup autopilot/emergency rudder Hydrovane, and a bilge pump failure. It was an emotional roller coaster of hopeless despairs to beaming bliss of surfing down waves with the trade-wind. It was an ultimate test of mental toughness and seamanship, and a testament of David Goggin's "Calloused Mind". Many new lifelong friendships were made also. A special thanks to Singlehanded Sailing Society and the Singlehanded TransPac Race Committee and all the volunteers who make this life changing experience possible. According to SHTP, "more people have made it to outer space than have raced single-handed from San Francisco to Hawaii” in this biennial race since 1978. I am eternally grateful for this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
