France: Tear gas flies as protesters rally against nationwide lockdown in Paris

Police fired tear gas during a march against a nationwide lockdown starting at midnight to tackle the spread of COVID-19, in Paris, on Thursday.

Protesters carried flares and let off fireworks as they marched past diners eating out during the evening. They knocked over bins and attacked a coffee shop.

From midnight on Thursday, citizens holding an attestation slip will only be allowed to leave their homes for work, help vulnerable individuals or do grocery shopping. Schools will remain open and people are encouraged to work from home.

France has registered over 1,280,000 confirmed cases of the coronavirus with 35,823 deaths with the disease according to Johns Hopkins University.
