Finance Supplementary Appropriation Bill 2025 Passed

The Finance (Supplementary Appropriation) (Financial Year 2025) Bill was passed in Parliament on Monday.

Minister of Finance Davendranath Tancoo outlined the government’s purpose behind the new bill.

"We are here today to supplement the 2025 fiscal package. Supplement because the members opposite made commitments, hired people, took loans, and did not provide for it."

After the second reading of the bill, the opposition protested, and a division was taken — that is, a formal, recorded vote to indicate the choice of each parliamentary member.

All government members agreed. All members of the opposition abstained, and the Speaker of the House, Jagdeo Singh, read the results.

"The results are 28 in favour of the bill, zero against, and 12 abstentions. The bill is passed."
