What if the universe is slowly disappearing from view?

Because the expansion of the universe is accelerating, distant galaxies outside our gravitationally bound Local Group are expected to move so far away that their light will eventually become undetectable.

Far in the future, a civilization could study the night sky and conclude that almost nothing exists beyond its own isolated region of space.

The rest of the universe would still be there.

They simply might have no way to prove it.

This idea is based on modern cosmology and the predicted long-term effects of dark energy.
