Using sensors to make in-crop nitrogen decisions

Using machine learning and crop sensors, new research has discovered tools to help accurately predict mid-season nitrogen (N) availability in wheat. This technology has the potential to greatly reduce the guesswork Australian wheat growers face when making in-crop fertiliser application decisions.

Made possible through GRDC investment, the research is part of the Future Farm 2 project. In this video, project participant Jonathan Richetti from the CSIRO discusses the sensor technology field trials and the promising findings the team has achieved so far.

Filmed at the 2020 GRDC Grains Research Update event in Perth, Western Australia.
