Bobby Allison’s Hemi Daytona: 200 MPH Barn Find Heads to Monterey

This legendary 1969 Dodge Hemi Daytona NASCAR, driven by NASCAR Hall of Famer Bobby Allison, is a true piece of American racing history. On August 24, 1969, Allison pushed this No. 22 Coca-Cola-liveried Daytona past 200 MPH for four consecutive laps at Talladega Superspeedway, making it one of the first NASCAR stock cars to break that barrier.

Discovered in a barn years later by collector Pat McKinney, the car was meticulously restored to its original red and gold livery and authenticated by Bobby Allison in a handwritten letter dated November 10, 1999. It features a 426/650 HP HEMI V8, built and dyno-tested by drag racing legend Dick Landy, and includes era-correct parts like 706 NASCAR rods, a dry sump oil system, and a vintage "bathtub" intake.

The car is also signed by Allison and Chrysler designer George Wallace, and has earned First Place at Amelia Island along with a display at the LeMay Car Museum.

Now, this rare barn find muscle car will cross the block at Mecum Monterey 2025, held at the Del Monte Golf Course from August 14 to 16, 2025.
