Discovering my ancestry in Eastern Kentucky
This is a video of my summer trip to Eastern Kentucky (Elliot County), where my dad's biological family is from. I did not know this place was a part of my personal story until I took an Ancestry DNA test about two years ago. Since then, we have managed to trace our genetic roots to Elliot County, Kentucky and even got to visit the region in August.
I stopped in Lexington and toured a Kentucky bourbon factory near the farms that the Kentucky Derby horses call home. Then we moved east to the hills of Eastern Kentucky & Appalachia and visited some less-visited areas of the state.
During my visit, I discovered more than just a side of my own heritage, but also was fortunate to learn about this very unique, rarely-visited part of the U.S., with a rich culture and history, friendly people and sweeping landscapes. This video only touches on the lovely sights and stories I discovered there.
Nothing in this video is sponsored, though the gentleman/artist who runs The Big 4 Country Store asked me to share his store with my friends (that’s you)! Stop by for his creative sculptures and whimsical gallery if you are in the region. His Facebook page is @thebig4countrystore
