What is RAM and How Does It Work? | Computer Memory Explained

In this video, we explain what RAM is and how it works inside a computer. RAM, or Random Access Memory, is the computer’s temporary working memory that stores the data and programs currently being used by the processor.

Think of RAM like a student’s desk, while the computer’s storage (SSD or hard drive) is like a bookshelf. The processor quickly accesses information placed on the desk (RAM), allowing programs to run smoothly and efficiently. Because RAM is much faster than storage devices, it helps computers open applications, switch between tasks, and process information quickly.

This video also explains:
• What is Random Access Memory (RAM) is
• Why RAM is important for computer performance
• What happens when RAM becomes full
• The difference between RAM and storage
• Typical RAM sizes in modern computers

RAM stores active programs, open files, and instructions for the CPU, making it essential for multitasking and system speed. However, RAM is volatile memory, meaning it only holds data temporarily and loses everything when the computer is turned off.
