Those against delimitation are also opposing increase in SC and ST seats, says Amit Shah

Addressing the Lok Sabha during the debate on the women’s reservation Bill, Union Home Minister Amit Shah replied that those resisting delimitation are effectively opposing the increase in seats reserved for SC and ST communities. Shah also said that ensuring a balanced and representative democratic structure has been entrusted to it, and decisions around delimitation are part of that mandate.

The Constitution (One Hundred and Thirty-First Amendment) Bill, 2026
The Delimitation Bill, 2026
The Union Territories Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2026

Opposition parties met at Rajya Sabha LoP Mallikarjun Kharge’s office in the Parliament complex to discuss the floor strategy for the day in Parliament. The main focus of this session is the Constitutional Amendment Bill to implement 33 per cent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies. Even though the law was passed in 2023, it has yet to be put into force, as it is linked to a fresh delimitation exercise.
