Unveiling of Memorial bust on 13th Death Anniversary of Ma Kambel Shullai at Dulong Pohhali, Jowai

I attended the solemn occasion commemorating the 13th death anniversary of Ma Kambel Shullai, held at Dulong Pohhali, Jowai, in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Shri Sniawbhalang Dhar, R.S. Gill, IFS, PCCF & Head of Forest Force Meghalaya Shri R.S. Gill, MDC Shri Moonlight Pariat, Dollois, leaders of Seiñraij Jowai, and religious elders from various Raij of the Jaintia Hills region.

A memorial bust was unveiled near Ka Khnap Thangbru — the eco-friendly crematorium innovated by Ma Kambel Shullai, a visionary son of Jowai whose contribution has brought great relief to the Niamtre community by reducing time, firewood use, and smoke during last rites.

I am proud to honour his lasting legacy, which has inspired sustainable solutions and continues to benefit countless families across Meghalaya. It is our responsibility to preserve his memory and uphold his commitment to both tradition and the environment.
