‘Government has just given up’: Budget reveals ‘staggering’ decline in tobacco excise revenue

Rohan Pike Consulting Managing Director Rohan Pike details how there has been a “staggering” decline in the Australian government’s tobacco excise revenue over the past six years.

This comes amid the Albanese government’s federal budget release.

“It’s been a staggering loss of excise in the last six years … that’s $12 billion a year that we’re losing,” Mr Pike told Sky News host Caleb Bond.

“The government’s allocated $3.5 million … to tackle this problem per year … in this budget, they have allocated one one-thousandth of the money that they’ve lost in excise rates to stop this problem; they would be thinking that the federal government has just given up.”
