Beehive to Stubblefield Canyon along the PCT. We woke up at 4:00 and were on trail by 4:30 a.m., hiked in the dark to beat the heat. This made the first 10 mi pretty easy and we finished them by about 10:00 a.m. The next 7 miles took a longer time with lts of ups and downs, southbound, over canyons carved by rivers and glaciers over eons, which run east to west. There is no crest for the PCT to follow in this section.

We saw a ranger “Karen” who put on a covid mask and checked our permit and my bear canister. We also saw a YNPS employee with four mules and two riders doing trail work along with two other backpackers. More YNPS employees than visitors on this day in the backcountry!
