Snarky Youngster vs Magician - 2015 Closeup Magic Competition

First of all, sorry about the shaky camera work. I had never shot closeup magic like this before. Next time I'll use a monopod so I remain mobile and stable.

This took place at the Oakland Magic Circle Closeup Competition in June of 2015.

This is a great performance involving three people. Kevin the Cap (Henry Chappie/The Magician), a beautiful mother and a bratty child.

Don't get me wrong, Aslan (the kid) is technically amazing as a magician. He really has some chops. Unfortunately he totally stiffs Henry, which is bad form. No worries. One day he'll be performing tricks for small children and he will get karmic payback.

Anyhow, Ra, the lady, plays the role of a Every Mother. Ra is a talented performer, student of Chinese medicine, and is named after the Egyptian God of the Sun. She hams up the Mother/Son tension for some nice laughs.

It's a great set, with a nice variety of magic including a solid cups and balls routine, the bar which is used by magicians to judge each other.
