Painting Robot Demonstrating Human–Robot Teaming Using Natural Language Interaction for Construction

This video demonstrates an early-stage experimental system for Human–Robot Teaming (HRT) using recent advances in Large Language Models (LLMs) and natural language interaction technologies.

The demonstration explores how conversational AI technologies, such as ChatGPT-like systems, can enhance communication and collaboration between humans and robots on construction sites through natural language understanding and context awareness.

In this example, a worker interacts with a robotic system using spoken language to request assistance with a painting task. The system identifies a suitable robot platform, coordinates task execution, and guides the worker through the process in a more natural and intuitive way.

By integrating conversational AI with robotics, Human–Robot Teaming has the potential to:
• Improve communication between workers and robots
• Simplify robot operation and task coordination
• Increase accessibility and ease of use on construction sites
• Enhance productivity, safety, and efficiency in dynamic environments

This demonstration highlights the future potential of AI-enabled robotic assistants that can work collaboratively with humans in real-world construction settings.
