76ers Shock Celtics With Historic Win

The 76ers became the first 7 seed in the East to defeat a 2 seed since the first round expanded to best-of-seven in 2003, eliminating the Celtics with a 109-100 Game 7 win.

Philadelphia had gone an NBA-record 0-18 when trailing 3-1 in a series, while Boston were 32-0 with a 3-1 lead.

Both streaks ended, as did the Sixers’ streak of six consecutive series losses to the Celtics, lasting 44 years.

Three of those included Joel Embid, who played through injuries with a stellar 34 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists.

Tyrese Maxey added 30 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists, becoming the first teammates in NBA history to each have at least 30-10-5 in a Game 7.

Meanwhile, VJ Edgecombe became the first rookie ever with a 20-5-5 stat line in a Game 7.

Boston and Philly have now played each other in 23 series, more than any other matchup in NBA playoff history.

In the semifinals, the 76ers will play another rival, the Knicks, who knocked Philly out of its last trip to the playoffs in 2024.

The Celtics, playing without injured Jayson Tatum, cut the 76ers' lead to 97-96 with 5 minutes remaining, but then missed their next 10 shots.
