Hard Conversations: talking with a loved one about self-injury with Michael Hollander & Janna Hobbs
Presenters Michael Hollander Ph.D. and Janna Hobbs LICSW provide some guidelines for ways to approach the difficult subject of self-injury, giving you the best chance for being effective. They touch on typical situations and give suggestions for what might be helpful.
Michael Hollander, Ph.D
Dr. Hollander is Co-Director of Boston Child Study Center – Maine where he provides expert supervision and training to BCSC’s DBT program as well as clinical consultation to patients and families. He is a nationally recognized expert on the causation and treatment of self-injury, and lectures throughout the U.S. on the subject.
Dr. Hollander has been treating adolescents and their families for over 40 years and in addition to his role at BCSC – Maine, has held numerous positions of clinical leadership at McLean Hospital in Belmont, Massachusetts. Dr. Hollander is co-founder of McLean’s exceptional 3East DBT program, where he provides supervision to staff and is a senior consultant working with families and patients.
Janna Hobbs, LICSW
Janna Hobbs is Co-Director of Boston Child Study Center – Maine, where she provides expert supervision and training to BCSC’s DBT program as well as clinical consultation to patients and families. A Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker in Maine and Massachusetts, she is trained in and has extensive experience in Dialectical Behavior Therapy and family work.
Janna studied at the University of New Hampshire and Simmons College. She was a co-founder of McLean Hospital’s 3East Continuum, the first residential intensive DBT unit for suicidal and self-injuring adolescents, and went on to serve as Program Director and Director of Clinical Services of the 3East Continuum before moving to her current position.
