Four Green Fields - Tommy Makem (Cover) by Seth Staton Watkins

Four Green Fields is a 1967 Irish folk song written by Tommy Makem. The Four Green Fields in the song refer to the four provinces of Ireland, and the las that remains in bondage, refers to Ulster that remained as part of the United Kingdom after the other provinces declared their independence. Makem commonly said that his inspiration for the song was a drive in "no man's land" adjoining Northern Ireland, where he saw an old woman tending her flock with not a care or thought for the controversial political boundary about which she stood.
