The Grand Hotel Marriott Resort: History of Bucky's Birdcage Lounge
The lounge at the Grand Hotel in Point Clear, Ala. didn't have a designated name until the mid-1960s, when hotel employees voted to call it the "Birdcage Lounge." Some say it was because of its shape. To carry out the theme, six small birdcages with artificial birds were hung throughout the lounge. In 2002, it was renamed "Bucky's Birdcage Lounge" to honor Aura J. "Bucky" Miller, who worked at the Grand Hotel for 61 years. Bill Lang, director of public relations, tells the story.
