The REAL Reason Final Fantasy 15 Was HUGE!

Why the sales of Final Fantasy 15 are not an indicator of the game's quality itself. There's a bunch of huge factors surrounding FF15 that are unique, and will never will be replicated.
FFXV by Square Enix was the first game on PS4, the next-gen console.
It wasn't FF13, which turned off a lot of people from FF, and had 3x games.
It wasn't Stormblood, the worst expansion in FF14 (until Dawntrail).
It had immense amount of big budget hype generated by the Kingsglaive CGI movie, starring Lena Headey, Sean Bean and Aaron Paul (at the height of Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad popularity).
It rode on the hype of Versus-13 for 7 years. People thought they were getting something like that - instead they got Prompto: God Emperor of Soy, the Musical Theatre Kid, Lord of Cringe, Destroyer of Testosterone.
Despite being a max budget AAA game, it regularly went on sale for $20, for years (notice how that doesn't happen for Baldurs Gate 3, Elden Ring, etc?).
And last of all - it looked like Final Fantasy was back. My friends and I were so hyped, we pre-ordered the deluxe edition. You probably did too. We all felt foolish after that.
If you really think FF15 sold 10 mil purely for its gameplay, story and characters alone, then by all means: Use it as the base for FF17. See how well that does. I know I sound harsh, but this game was one of the final nails in the coffin for me for modern FF.
