The most popular theory suggests that the occasional long-haired puppies were then selectively bred to create a long-haired variant, or they were likely bred with Water Spaniels. Whichever is the case, they surely retain their short-haired sibling’s temperament. While Doxie dogs are many things, quiet is not one of them! As a breed, they have some of the biggest characters in the dog world, and are totally devoted to their owners.

While they definitely appear small and cute, the long haired Dachshund can be a rather challenging pet.
