How These Penguins Adapt to Climate Change

Ever wondered how penguin eggs hatch?
You see, emperor penguins lay their eggs on solid winter ice in Antarctica. The egg must be kept at 97°F for 70 days,- and if it touches the ice, it dies within minutes. But building a nest in those heavy winds is impossible. So the father keeps the egg on his feet the entire time. There's another challenge: feathers are great insulators and don't transfer heat. That's why he holds the egg in a brood patch, which is a featherless area of skin that keeps the egg in direct contact with body heat. He barely moves or eats for the whole time! He just stands there and protects the future.
