Throne speech: Conservatives say they will not support Liberals’ plan

Deputy Leader of the Opposition and Conservative MP Candice Bergen said on Wednesday that the party would not support the Liberal government’s throne speech, saying it “leaves behind more Canadians who are suffering” and racks up more debt. She also criticized the idea of raising taxes, saying it’s not what Canadians need.

Bergen also said they found the throne speech to be a way for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to “cover up his scandals,” shut down committees, “interfering in provincial jurisdictions” and not supporting the provinces when they’ve asked for assistance, in her view.

The deputy Opposition leader added they are ready for an election if the NDP do not support the throne speech. She also said the prime minister should have presented a throne speech that addressed concerns of the Opposition, the provinces and “everyday Canadians.”
