MITSUBISHI Factory: XPANDER Production at Bekasi Plant Indonesia
The XPANDER is built at Mitsubishi Motors Krama Yudha Indonesia (MMKI), a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility situated in Bekasi, Indonesia. The factory supplies the model to the domestic market as well as to other countries in the region. As it is manufactured in Indonesia and meets the minimum 40% ASEAN content requirement, it can be imported in other ASEAN countries without import duty being charged, as provided under the AFTA (ASEAN Free Trade Area) agreement.

“I am very pleased that customers in Indonesia and other ASEAN markets have enthusiastically accepted the XPANDER. We will continue to devote our efforts to deliver this exciting car as quickly as possible to more customers,” Osamu Masuko, Chief Executive Officer of MMC said.

Between the start of sales in August 2017 until the end of June 2018, some 80,000 orders were received in Indonesia alone. In March this year, it was ranked No. 1 in Indonesia’s sales volume ranking and has received a Car of the Year 2018 award from a local newspaper.
Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia is looking at offering the XPANDER in Malaysia although the launch date has not been indicated. With the KL International Motor Show 2018 being held towards the end of the year, it is possible that the company may use that event to launch the model which is powered by a 16-valve 1.5-litre MIVEC 4-cylinder petrol engine. Size-wise, it is about the same as a Nissan Grand Livina and has generous ground clearance to cope with various types of surfaces as well as flooded roads.
