Children Need to Experience Some Stress
Parents cannot eliminate all stress from a family. In fact, children learn to deal with adversity be experiencing some level of stress through manageable stressors. But toxic stress is relentless and damaging.
Supportive Productive Relationships Protect Children from Toxic Stress
Children benefit when they are surrounded by familiar people who love them during times of stress. As much predictability of routines as is possible will also be of benefit. Children learn by watching and interacting with their parents and acquire coping skills from experiencing parental reactions during times of sadness.
