Messerschmitt Bf 109-E Rescued from a Watery Grave (part 1)

This Bf 109 fought in air battles over the Eastern Front against the Russian Airforce.

It is reported that this aircraft was shot down in 1942 by a lend/lease British Hurricane flown by a Russian Pilot.

After sustaining significant damage the pilot managed a controlled landing on a frozen lake below.

The survived without injury and was able to walk back to the German lines, The Plane however, came to rest on the lake bed the following summer as the ice melt beneath it.

A very rare find indeed and in excellent condition due to the ideal landing conditions the lake offered

Recovery occurred in 2003.
