It made landfall early Sunday, bringing strong winds and heavy rain to southern China, including Hong Kong, and forcing hundreds of thousands of people from their homes in Guangdong. The province has been on high alert and hundreds of flights have been cancelled.

Authorities said the typhoon would bring heavy to torrential rain across much of the south of the country for two days. China declared its highest alert for flash floods in several provinces.

The year’s 12th tropical cyclone and China’s third this month, Noul struck ‌the coast of Huidong county at about 3.50am on Sunday, officials ‌said.
