Calling BS on two things in the art world

Calling BS on TWO things

1️⃣ The National Gallery’s “creator” call-out requirements set the far insanely high. I am all about standards but this was mental: 100k on IG, 50k on YouTube, 50k + a million likes on TikTok. That’s not a creator—that’s a celebrity. What about the people actually building communities, creating real conversations about ART? Not buying followers. Not chasing clout. Just showing up.

The timing struck a nerve because - speaking of fakery - I’ve been cloned on TikTok. Someone stole my content, set up a fake account (carriescott.curates is not me!!!) and is sliding into artists’ DMs pretending to be me. It’s predatory. It’s gross. And it’s everything I stand against.

So yeah—the numbers game is broken, institutions are rewarding smoke + mirrors, and scammers are out here preying on artists. Don’t buy into it.

Follow real accounts built by people who care about ART with real people following them like:

@theartrevival_
@greatartexplained
@theartbystander
@mckay_williamson
@magideye
@mustardcontemporary
@artstorylover
@anclude
@goodnightgallery
@jerrygogosian
@jerrysaltz
@londonartcritic

And tell me your faves in the comments! I only just discovered Goodnight Gallery and love what he’s up to so I’m sure you have some other top tips for us all.

(And sidebar: hope you’re not too mad at me @nationalgallery — I’d love to be part of your creator group. This just had to be said! 😉)
